In February of 2013 I sent in my DNA sample to 23andME, a fun process of spitting into a test tube, sealing it up mailing it back to them. It actually was not that bad. The cost was $99, so that part was very reasonable as well. My sister Kelly, and her new found love of genealogy had talked me into it, although very easily I should say and now all I had to do was wait for the results. I didn't know what to expect and as time went by some people I talked to sounded pessimistic about the whole thing saying it was probably a scam. Well I landed up waiting just under 9 weeks and finally received the notice that the results were in. I have to admit I was excited to see what it had to say.
The first part I reviewed was my health risk's, carrier status and traits. Everything here seemed pretty normal and my traits seemed to match up pretty well, including my beloved high blood pressure. As it turns out I can just blame my DNA.
My maternal and paternal lines were the next thing I looked up. One thing I wanted to check was whether my maternal line matched my sisters, if it didn't then maybe the skeptics were right, but as it turns out they matched, so that was a relief. Then I had to wait again for the ancestry composition, which I have added to this site. You can look under "What's New" to find it. The results were very interesting and worth the wait. Another piece of the puzzle put in place. All in all I would highly recommend 23andMe for DNA testing, as long as you are patient when waiting for the results.
